With the lockdown period set to continue for an unspecified length of time, this has put many people who are either going through a divorce or are considering one in an even more difficult situation. If you’re in the former group the chances are that you’ll be keen to resolve matters as quickly as possible. For those who are yet to start the process, there are other concerns and issues.

At Eatons, we may not physically be in our offices at the moment, but we are still here for both our existing and potential clients and hope that this advice will be useful for you at this very difficult time.

Advice for our existing clients

If we are already acting on your behalf in your divorce, please rest assured that the process is on-going. Where there may be delays is in obtaining house valuations as valuers are unable to visit and in gaining expert evidence as many businesses are operating with limited staff. Within these limitations, we are doing all we can to keep things moving forwards and rest assured that we will continue to keep you fully informed of our progress. Naturally, we are also able to keep in contact via phone, email, Skype and Zoom.  We will communicate with you whenever is necessary, and you should also feel free to get in touch with us so we will deal with your query as soon as we possibly can.

If you’re considering a divorce now

In an ideal world, at times of crisis, we’d hope that we’d all be able to come together to offer mutual help and support. Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible. In some cases, it may be because relationships have already started to become strained. In others, the enforced self-isolation with partners may bring underlying tensions to the surface. In the most extreme cases of this, divorce may seem to be the only solution.

The fact that we are seeing an increase in divorce enquiries at the moment seems to bear this theory out. In some ways, it is similar to the traditional surge in enquiries generally seen in January of each year which follow the Christmas period – another time when tensions can run high and sometime reach breaking point.

Fortunately, we have a highly experienced team that specialises in all areas of family law. To meet the demand, we are continuing to provide our service throughout the lockdown period via video and telephone calls. We also continue to attend court hearings remotely as and when it’s necessary.

So if you do decide to start divorce proceedings, you can still have a first meeting with your lawyer and speak to them to receive some initial advice.  Please rest assured that we are sensitive to the issues that may arise when you are in your home with your spouse and children if you’re also a parent. So we will do all we can to enable a private and confidential remote meeting at a time that’s convenient for you.

Therefore if you need a free, no-obligation, telephone appointment with one of our team, please contact your nearest Eatons office.

Please be reassured that the first contact you make with us will always be the hardest. But once that initial hurdle has been crossed you will find we are caring, sensitive and dedicated to providing the very best service.

Every call to our office is confidential and you can trust us to provide you with honest advice that is specific to your wishes and circumstances and which has your every interest at its heart.  So trust us to guide the way for you through this difficult time.

To make full use of our family law services simply contact your nearest Eatons office or email us at enquiries@eatons-solicitors.co.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible to take things further.
